Events and activities

Our association, every year, organizes some sporting events aimed at both members and the population, especially young people, so that we can get to know the sea and its traditions to the widest possible spectrum of people.

Some of these activities, given also the large participation obtained, are repeated on a regular basis, while others are periodically renewed, sometimes extended, to adapt us to the conditions of the moment.

We always try to obtain new ideas, often in collaboration with other associations or institutions (such as schools), in order to be able to respond adequately to the interests and expectations of young people, which are often changing and dictated by the "fashion" of the moment.

At the same time we also try to make known the traditions of the sea even to those who prefer to live it with the peace that contact with nature often offers.

Social dinner

Every summer we organize a social dinner open to all members and their relatives and friends where we prepare meals and serve at the table all together.

Dinner is free for members and their close relatives, while friends pay a symbolic contribution.

In general, this event, which is repeated annually but which we plan to expand, is scheduled for mid-July.

The Pierini competition

Every year, on the occasion of the feast of San Giovanni, generally on Sunday to allow everyone to participate, the A.S.N.O. organizes a fishing competition, which takes place at the mooring of the Association, reserved for children from 6 to 12 years (who wants to be accompanied by parents or relatives, even if they are fishing, of course, it will only be the small budding fishermen).

To those who do not provide, we provide, free of charge, the fishing equipment.

All children, winners or not, will receive a prize linked to the world of fishing or bathing.

The meeting, usually, is at the root of the long pier of Oneglia at 8.00 where they will be delivered a berettino, baits (offered by the company Da Pippo "Everything for fishing") and a bucket to keep the fish pending weighing.

The competition, then, will start at 8.30 to end at 11.00.

The fish is weighed directly at the place of fishing so that it can be released immediately.

This event is normally scheduled for the end of June, when the city celebrates St John’s.

Coastal trolling social competition

Normally at least twice a year, also according to the weather and sea conditions that we find, we do a competition of coastal trolling, reserved for boats registered with our association, in the coast opposite the area of Imperia.

They can also participate outside the ASNO provided that they are on a boat registered with our Association.

It is customary to have two people on each vessel, but a different number of fishermen can be agreed with the ASNO management.

Usually the race takes place in September, when coastal predators increase their activity.

Of course, species that are protected or smaller than the FIPSAS tables for races, which may be accidentally caught, are promptly released into the sea and are not counted in the catches made.

The fish caught, at the end of the weighing and classification operations, are returned to the individual crews, while the excess of 5 kg per head of fish, provided for as a maximum limit by the legislation in force outside competitions, will be donated to charity.

Lighting of the candles

Every year, during the festivities of San Giovanni, hundreds of candles are laid out in the sea at night, creating a very spectacular effect on the sea of the summer coast of Oneglia.

Normally this event is scheduled in June during the St. John’s festival.

Love the sea

The children of the summer school of the institute Our Lady of Mercy participated in the meeting "Love the sea".

Organized by the association A.S.N.O in collaboration with the Provincial Committee FIPSAS of Imperia and the regional head of education and training Emilio Maffi.

Dr Fabio Bottero, biologist, and the federal instructor Federico Massabò were present.

The two experts have explained to young schoolchildren the habitat of our seas and the various criticalities that are found in the different environments of our coastline, thus stimulating the interest of children who were stimulated to ask multiple questions on the subject.

At the end of the event, the boys, assisted by experts in sport fishing, were able to try out, having fun, fishing with the rod at the mooring ASNO, with great results.

The catch, of course, was released into the sea.

The final result was a beautiful morning that sparked great enthusiasm in the children.

Cleaning of the Oneglia harbour

The A.S.N.O., in collaboration with various local associations and diving, has given life to the initiative aimed at cleaning the seabed of the Oneglia harbour from the "garbage" that people little respectful of the environment have thrown over the years.

As highlighted by an article in the online newspaper "Riviera24" (see link below), among other things, a bicycle, a deck and a luggage trolley were fished by divers.

The objective of the event was to raise awareness among citizens and all professional and amateur operators on the proper disposal of waste, for greater environmental protection.

Regarding this activity, the President of A.S.N.O. in office, Filippo Duberti, stressed how it contributes actively to the respect of the sea and its ecosystem, which are one of the most important objectives of our Association.
